Service overview
Power Flushing & Radiator Installation: what it is and when you need it
What it is
A power flush pumps water and cleaning chemicals through your heating system at high flow to remove sludge, rust and debris. Radiator installation covers replacing old radiators, adding new ones, moving them during renovations, and fitting thermostatic valves.
Who it's for
Homes with cold spots, noisy systems or discoloured water when bleeding radiators; anyone fitting a new boiler onto an older system; and homeowners renovating or extending.
When you need it
Before or alongside a new boiler, when radiators are cold at the bottom, or when you are redecorating and want better-sized or better-placed radiators.
Why use a professional
Sludge restricts flow, makes the boiler work harder and is a common cause of pump and heat exchanger failures. A clean system protects your boiler and its warranty.
The cost of waiting
What happens if you leave it
Sludge doesn't go away on its own. It builds up and spreads.
Risks if it's ignored
- Cold radiators mean colder rooms and higher gas use.
- Debris can block the boiler's heat exchanger and damage the pump.
- A new boiler fitted onto a dirty system can fail early.
- Corroded radiators can start to leak.
Common mistakes we see
- Fitting a new boiler without cleaning the system first.
- Not adding inhibitor after a flush.
- Choosing radiators by looks alone, without checking heat output for the room.
- Skipping a magnetic filter that would catch future debris.
Our process
How we handle your power flushing & radiator installation
01
Assess
We check the system, radiators and water condition.
02
Prepare
We connect the flushing equipment and protect your home.
03
Flush or install
We flush each radiator in turn, or fit and connect new radiators.
04
Treat & protect
We add inhibitor and advise on a magnetic filter where appropriate.
05
Balance & test
We balance the system so every radiator heats evenly.
What you get
The benefits of doing it properly
Warmer rooms
Radiators heat fully from top to bottom.
Protects your boiler
Less debris means less strain on the pump and heat exchanger.
Quieter system
Removing sludge and air reduces noise.
Better efficiency
Good circulation means the boiler doesn't have to work as hard.
10-year pipework guarantee
Copper pipework we install is guaranteed for 10 years.
Right-sized radiators
New radiators chosen for the heat each room needs.
In detail
Power flushing and radiator options
Different systems and homes need different approaches.
Power flush vs chemical clean
A power flush suits heavily sludged systems. Lighter contamination can sometimes be dealt with by a chemical clean and drain-down.
Before a new boiler
Manufacturers expect a clean system. Flushing protects your new boiler and its warranty.
Radiator types
Single and double panel, column radiators and towel rails. We help you choose by heat output, size and style.
Moving radiators
During renovations or extensions we reposition radiators and pipework, using copper pipework covered by our 10-year guarantee.
Thermostatic radiator valves
TRVs let you control the temperature in each room and help reduce waste.
Useful guide
How sludge builds up, and how to keep it out
Most heating systems use steel radiators and copper or plastic pipework. Over time, oxygen in the water causes corrosion inside the radiators, producing a black iron oxide sludge called magnetite. It settles at the bottom of radiators and is carried around the system, collecting in the boiler's heat exchanger, the pump and valves.
Signs of sludge include radiators that are warm at the top but cold at the bottom, very dark water when you bleed a radiator, a noisy boiler, a pump that fails repeatedly and a system that takes a long time to warm up.
After a power flush, adding the correct dose of inhibitor slows corrosion down. A magnetic filter fitted on the return pipe to the boiler captures magnetite before it reaches the boiler and can be cleaned during the annual service.
When adding or replacing radiators, the heat output needs to suit the size of the room, its windows and outside walls. A radiator that looks right but is undersized will leave the room cold. We size new radiators so each room reaches a comfortable temperature.
A power flush is carried out radiator by radiator. Each one is isolated in turn while high-flow water and cleaning chemicals are pushed through it, loosening sludge and flushing it out of the system. Radiators can be tapped or agitated to break up stubborn deposits. Once the water runs clear, the system is refilled, treated with inhibitor and checked for even heat across every room.
If your radiators are very old, badly corroded or already leaking, replacing them can be better value than flushing them. We tell you honestly which option makes more sense for your system.
